Dixie Mulch is a blended combination of mushroom compost and soil conditioner. We designed this product to be used in raised beds that were originally filled with Dixie Mix. When you place a 6" to 8" depth of Dixie Mix in a raised bed and plant flowers or vegetables, naturally the soil will settle a bit from irrigation and rainfall during the growing season. You would then add enough Dixie Mulch to this bed to bring the soil level back up to a 6" to 8" depth. We do not recommend tilling this mixture. It is to be used as a mulch but since it contains mushroom compost you'll be adding nutritional value back to your raised bed. In our opinion, it is not necessary to add any chemical fertilizers to an existing bed that has been filled with Dixie Mix. After the initial fill of Dixie Mix, your bed should only require a small amount of Dixie Mulch after each growing season. Dixie Mulch can also be used around permanent plants and shrubbery. It will provide a lot of nutrition to your plants and shrubbery and will aide in moisture retention, all with the appearance of a mulch. If you have an existing perennial bed that does not contain Dixie Mix, then we suggest adding a 1" to 2" layer of Dixie Mulch to this bed annually. As mentioned earlier, since this mixture is very rich in organic matter, chemical fertilizers are not recommended when using Dixie Mulch. Dixie Mulch is a weed free mixture, so you don't have to worry about infesting your flower beds or shrubbery with weeds.
